The feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated in the current calendar on the octave day of the feast of the Assumption, offers us the opportunity to honor along with the heavenly hosts the Queen of the Universe, the Mother of God. Now, it might seem a little redundant to celebrate another Marian feast so close to the Assumption, which is a Holy Day of Obligation; but it makes sense to celebrate the crowning of Our Lady as Queen of the Universe after marking the Assumption, that high holy day on which she was taken into heaven body and soul. 

Here are some ideas for marking the feast day:

• If possible, attend Mass. This feast is not a holy day of obligation, but there is no greater way to honor Our Lady on this day than by assisting at the holy sacrifice of the Mass. 
• Wear blue and gold. Blue is the color that is traditionally associated with Our Lady, so wearing blue would be incredbly fitting on this day. Gold, of course, reminds of us the crowning of Our Lady, so consider adding touches of gold by accessorizing with gold-toned jewelry like watches, earrings, necklaces, or bracelets. 
• Crown a statue of Our Lady. Hosting a crowning for Our Lady is a beautiful way to mark the feast of the Queenship of Mary. You can find small crowns for statues online (simply search “crown for statue of Mary”), or you can make your own crown out of flowers using floral wire, floral tape, and fresh or artificial flowers. Tutorials are readily available online! The crowning of your Mary statue can be a simple affair or an elaborate one; it is easily adaptable depending on your circumstances. Consider inviting friends or family over to your home. It would also be a good opportunity to invite your parish priest to bless your home and to then formally crown the statue for your family.
• Pray the Rosary. Our Lady asked at Fatima that we pray the Rosary every day. Although it can be difficult to build up the habit of praying a daily Rosary, one good way to start is by making the effort on Marian feast days. Try to think of the Rosary as though you are calling your mother—she would be glad to hear from you! If you cannot manage to pray the whole Rosary, make sure to pray the Fifth Glorious Mystery: the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth.
