This year St. John Henry Newman, the great convert from Anglicanism was proclaimed a doctor of the Church. In 2019 he was declared a saint for his virtuous life and miraculous intervention. In 2025, he was declared a Doctor of the Church for his enormous contribution to theological thought. He was a man of utmost faith, leaving behind the comfortable Anglican world he knew for going into the unknown of the Catholic Church. He lost family and friends, and was looked down upon in the eyes of the world. Yet he persevered in faith and left behind an example of holiness and much rich food for meditation in his treatises, his sermons, and his poetry.
