Make the Chain Longer: A Meditation on the Divine Indwelling

Make the Chain Longer – by Servant of God Cora Evans

I remember well, dear Holy Spirit, in the depths of meditations prayer, I was permitted to watch the Holy Hand of our Beloved Jesus, write these words with my pen, “It is [your] duty and obligation to propagate My Mystical Humanity.” And from that cross . . . [as Your] arm embraced me . . . I felt a friend clasp my hand in theirs and as I gazed upon that friend, his hand was clasped by another friend’s hand, and so a living chain of friends were formed which seemed to encircle the earth and [You said] into my soul—“Make the chain longer.” — Servant of God Cora Evans

Each prayer adds links to the chain, fulfilling His request to “make the chain longer.” And by doing so, the vision expressed in Cora’s private revelation becomes reality. At our baptism the Holy Spirit came to live in us. It is through the Eucharist that the Spirit is more profoundly united with us; nourishing us and strengthening us so that we are better able to carry out His will and put our faith into action. And it is through the daily invitation for Jesus to relive His humanity through us that we consciously reinforce our desire to do His will.

The Mystical Humanity of Christ – by Fr. Frank Parrish, S.J., Spiritual Director of Cora Evans

I’ve always been of the mind that the Mystical Humanity of Christ was the life of the interior Indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit. That Christ, the Blessed Trinity Itself, dwells within us. It’s that we become His other humanity, His resurrected life. He died and left the world, true, but He continues to live in His resurrected life through our humanities.

To me this is the very heart and apex of our Catholic faith. It is a devotion (a way of prayer) which is strengthened by the Eucharist—the cornerstone of our faith.

The Lay Person’s Choice to Respond

As a lay person you are given a choice to respond. If you choose not to respond, Jesus will find those who will. Place your trust in Him. And invite Him to accomplish His mission through you. It is through you that the work of the Incarnation, His work, continues in the world today. His mission is your mission. As lay people, the very essence of our role is missionary.

Silent Reflection and Discernment

What steps might I take to make the chain longer?

How might I eliminate any complacency in relation to God that has crept into my life?
