9 Catholic Podcasts for Your Summer Travel Plans
As summer approaches, you are likely making vacation plans. Chances are you will have some time to fill during those long summer trips. These times can be a great opportunity to brush up on your Catholic faith or learn something completely new. Here is a list of our top Catholic podcasts. They range from easy listening to deep theological discussion. So, put those ear buds in or plug in that auxiliary jack in the car and enjoy.
1. Pints with Aquinas - The Joe Rogan of Catholic podcasts. Hosted by Catholic speaker and apologist Matt Fradd, Pints with Aquinas provides long form interviews with a variety of guests. Episodes range from one to three hours with most episodes between 60-90 minutes. Topics vary by guest, but include theology, philosophy, and culture.
2. Jimmy Akins Mysterious World - A fascinating podcast with wide appeal. Catholic Apologist Jimmy Akin (best known from Catholic Answers) investigates mysteries of every kind. Topics include UFO sightings, ancient mysteries, bigfoot, ghosts, bible mysteries, folklore, and even true crime. Episodes are released weekly and generally last about an hour. Some mysteries span multiple episodes. While not all the mysteries themselves are inherently Catholic, Jimmy explores every mystery from the perspective of reason and faith.
3. Logical Bible Study-Daily Gospel Exegesis - One of my personal favorites, Logical Bible Study delves into the literal interpretation of the daily Gospel reading. It seeks to help us discover exactly what Jesus meant and how His listeners would have understood His teachings. It is released 365 days per year. Episodes are generally around 15-20 minutes. If you want to understand the Gospels better, this is the podcast for you.
4. The Rosary in a Year podcast - Part of a three for one, Rosary in a Year is a member of Ascension Press’s “In a Year” podcast series with also includes the Bible in a Year and the Catechism in a Year. We selected Rosary in a Year with Father Mark-Mary Ames, CFR because it is less well known. Rosary in a Year seeks to transform your understanding and the way you pray the rosary. It teaches how to build a habit of daily prayer and how to meditate better. You will also learn the history of the rosary and gain insight into the spiritual practices of religious communities and how you can utilize those practices in your daily life.
5. Rosary Together – Rosary Together allows you to pray along to a recorded rosary. I find it super handy anytime I want to pray the rosary but I need my hands free. There are many rosary podcasts out there. My biggest issue is that most of them either pray the rosary too fast or too slow. Rosary Together takes 18 minutes to complete the rosary. The pace is perfect for me. Rosary Together also offers a recording of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
6. The Catholic Current - The Catholic Current is hosted by Jesuit Father Robert McTeigue. Episodes are offered Monday thru Friday and last 1 hour. It is a long form interview podcast. Father McTeigue hosts daily guests to discuss current events from a Catholic perspective.
7. American Catholic History - American Catholic History celebrates the contribution of Catholics throughout American history. It is one of my personal favorites, and my kids also love it. They have also learned about a myriad of historical events. From the founding of our nation to the settling of the west, each episode features a different individual. Featured Catholics include the well-known to the very obscure. It also features priests, religious, and lay people. Featured Catholics have included Gary Cooper, Bob Newhart, Buffalo Bill Cody, and my daughter’s favorite, Sister Blandina, the “fastest nun in the west”.
8. Let’s Science! with the Catholics of Oz- Let’s Science discusses the wonders of the natural world as revealed through current scientific discoveries. Let’s Science is hosted by the Australian podcast team the Catholics of Oz. Let’s science will help you rediscover your sense of wonder and learn about new gadgets and scientific discoveries at the same time. As a bonus, the accents are great!
9. All Things Catholic - Another one of my personal favorites, Catholic Author and Speaker Dr. Edward Sri discusses the faith and how to live a holy life. All Things Catholic addresses topics related to Catholic living and is filled with tons of practical advice. If you want to grow in holiness through every day living, this is the podcast for you. Dr. Sri is one of the best teachers you could hope for and he releases episodes weekly.
